Board of Trustees and Advisory Board Members

President, Thomas Nantais, has been with the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) for over 32 years and is presently the Chief Operating Officer of the Henry Ford Medical Group, one of the nation’s largest medical groups. He has been an Adjunct Finance Professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn for 20 years. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Business Administration-Finance degrees from Wayne State University in 1978 and 1982. Tom serves on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion (MRDI).  Tom also founded and chairs the Board of the Belinda Sue Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research.  

Vice President, Laurel F. McGiffert,
 a senior partner and trial attorney at Plunkett Cooney, Ms. McGiffert has been practicing law for more than thirty years.  She concentrates her practice primarily in the areas of labor and employment law, medical liability, municipal, civil rights, and general litigation.  She has previous experience serving as an independent arbitrator and mediator in ADR hearings, and has past experience in serving on trustee boards for non-profit organizations. 

Secretary, Kari Klinski,
 Vice President of Community & Governmental Affairs at Spectrum Human Services, Inc. & Affiliated Companies. She has previous experience in child welfare and community, political and educational advocacy.

Treasurer, Patricia M. O'Neill, Pattie O’Neill is a forensic accountant with prior experience as an internal audit manager, budget officer, manager of credit card services, and chief financial officer. She has served on various not for profit boards including community services and a city arts counsel. 

Immediate Past President, Pamela Sawhney,
 is a Registered Nurse and an attorney.  She serves as a volunteer mediator for Oakland Mediation Center for general civil cases, special education and in the district court program.  She serves on the Board of Directors for Spectrum Human Services, Inc. & Affiliated Companies.  

A. David Baumhart, III
, is the former Director of the Michigan Court of Appeals Settlement Program and has been a practicing attorney since 1970. Dave serves as a volunteer mediator for OMC for general civil cases, special education and in the district court program. Dave is the past Chair of the State Bar of Michigan's ADR Section as well as the Oakland County Bar Association, ADR Committee and serves on an Attorney Discipline Board panel for the Attorney Discipline Board. Additionally, Dave serves on the Oakland County Parks & Recreation Commission. In his private alternative dispute resolution practice (ADRAdvantages, PLC) Dave offers mediation, facilitation and arbitration services. 

Matt Bergstrom, is president of Thornton & Grooms Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing. Since acquiring the company with his two business partners Mike Bergstrom and Dave Knight in 2004 he implemented a re-branding and expansion effort that has grown the company 10-fold. Matt earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Grand Valley State University. Matt serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors for Nexstar Network – a contractor’s best practices organization. He also serves as an Ambassador for the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce and is a volunteer and participates in short term mission trips with Kensington Community Church.

Judge Stephen C. Cooper, is a popular speaker, mediator, arbitrator and Court Appointed Receiver since retiring after 20+years as a trial judge. Judge Cooper is often called to serve as Visiting Circuit and Probate Judge. He’s the recipient of many honors, partially listed at neutral mediator.com. Judge Cooper previously served as Vice President at Oakland Mediation Center. 

Joe Gagnon,
 well known broadcaster of the Appliance Doctor radio show has been elected to the board of directors of Oakland Mediation Services. Mr. Gagnon brings years of experience in customer relations to OMC and will offer his services to help the many fine volunteers who help mediate the thousands of cases performed each year.

Advisory Board

William Brodhead
, is a retired lawyer and a Former Member of Congress. He served on the OMC board from 1998 to 2010 and was its Chair from 2007 to 2009. Bill is a strong supporter of the mission of OMC and feels honored to serve as an adviser to the organization.  Mr. Brodhead is a Past President of OMC.

Jon H. Kingsepp
, is active in mediation and alternative dispute resolution. He has 40 years of experience in litigation in several federal and state courts in the United States and the Caribbean. Mr. Kingsepp is a past chair of the Oakland Mediation Center.

C. Michael Malloy, is the managing director of a management advisory firm located in Novi.  He has extensive experience in finance and insurance. Mr. Malloy is a Past President of OMC.
